How to improve the effectiveness of each stage of the learning cycle.

Trying to provide eveidence of learning at the thinking stage of the learning process is notoriously difficult. So we have produced a volume that offers early and improved assessment for learning across the curriculum.

The route we have chosen is through the use of Mind Maps - probably the most versatile of all visual tools.

To get the best results, however, mind maps need to go beyond the well-known initial stage of brainstorming and word association.

It is only when mind maps are used systematically and pervasively that they get the best results - and that is what MapWise demonstrates. As one colleague put it, "it allows you to get inside the heads of the pupils to really help them learn in the most effective way possible".

What we've done here is to link cognitive psychology with neuroscience perspectives - without delving into all the detailed science that might be encountered en route.

As a result we have a volume which shows how one can apply (within the classroom) model maps to each stage of the learning cycle. And as a result of that communication between teachers and learners becomes more effective.
